Time

More than just a personal weather station, the TE923W includes a built-in clock that can display the current time format, and this clock really will display the current time, since it receives radio signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado. Not only does it consistently adjusts the clock to within one second of official U.S. government, but automatically adjusts the time for Daylight Savings Time as well. The atomic clock features a dual crescendo alarm with a programmable snooze alarm that never needs resetting. What's more, this clock displays both a user-friendly sunrise and sunset calculator, and a moon phase calendar.

Weather

This exceptional unit measures wind speed and direction; rainfall amount; indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity; and includes a wireless UV (Ultraviolet) sensor that measures potentially harmful UV levels. And not only does the TE923W display the temperature and humidity, but provides you with a 12- to 24-hour weather forecast with easy-to-interpret graphical icons, such as clouds, rain, sunshine and more. The screen displays the current temperatures at both the main display, and the remote sensor location in either Celsius or Fahrenheit depending upon your selection. As an added convenience, it contains a programmable ice warning alarm for taking precautions against the frost. It also has a 24-hour barometric pressure history chart. The station has eight-channel capability and will accept up to four additional sensors with a wireless transmission range of approximately 300 feet..

Display

As convenient as it is accurate the display utilizes easy-to-read digits on a bright, blue backlit LCD display that allows you to read its information at a glance day or night. It comes with an infrared remote control for all display functions as well as PC Software and USB cord. It can store up to 200 weather records without using a PC connection.The whole system requires 12 AA batteries and 2 AAA batteries which are not included. • The Galileo thermometer consists of a sealed glass tube that is filled with water and several floating bubbles. The bubbles are glass spheres filled with a colored liquid mixture. Attached to each bubble is a little metal tag that indicates a temperature. These metal tags are calibrated counterweights. The weight of each tag is slightly different from the others. Since the bubbles are all hand-blown glass, they aren't exactly the same size and shape.
• The bubbles are calibrated by adding a certain amount of fluid to them so that they have the exact same density. So, after the weighted tags are attached to the bubbles, each differs very slightly in density (the ratio of mass to volume) from the other bubbles, and the density of all of them is very close to the density of the surrounding water.
• As the temperature of the air outside the thermometer changes, so does the temperature of the water surrounding the bubbles. As the temperature of the water changes, it either expands or contracts, thereby changing its density. So, at any given density, some of the bubbles will float and others will sink. The bubble that sinks the most indicates the approximate current temperature.
• The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Vidie -- and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half filled with water.
• A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body.
