It illuminates for three seconds on battery power and can be turned on constantly with the included AC adaptor. The clock also comes with a lot of nice extras, including a dual alarm with snooze, a push-button EL backlight, 12- or 24-hour time mode, and temperature readings in F or C. The forecast function reads air pressure changes to make simple weather predictions and is about 75% accurate for 12-20 hours.
